Rights and Responsabilities

Rights of Postdoctoral Fellows

  • You receive the benefits granted to professors and graduate students of UdeM regarding library and IT services.
  • You can attend courses upon agreement of your supervisor. These courses can be credited if you are an independent (Étudiant libre).

Tax Exemption for Postdoctoral Fellows from Foreign Countries

Foreigners who are hired by a university as postdoctoral researchers can receive the Government of Quebec tax exemption if they meet the eligibility criteria established by the Government of Quebec. This exemption is renewable annually.

To benefit from the tax exemption measure, non-resident postdoctoral candidates must, among other things, obtain an eligibility certificate from the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (Ministry of Education).

Responsibilities of Postdoctoral Fellows

Postdoctoral fellows must comply with the Policy on the status of postdoctoral candidate and other policies and regulations issued by Université de Montréal, notably the « Politique de l'Université de Montréal sur la propriété intellectuelle » (UdeM intellectual property policy).
